Ford Motor Company is recalling 52,547 vehicles in Canada and about 500,000 in the United States due to a potential brake fluid leak.

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a brake hose may rupture, causing fluid to leak and increasing stopping distances. While no accidents or injuries have been reported so far, the defect raises the risk of collisions. Drivers may notice changes in brake pedal feel or the illumination of the red brake fluid warning light.

The recall affects Ford Edge SUVs (2015-2018) and the Lincoln MKX (2016-2018). The NHTSA estimates that about 1% of affected vehicles actually present the defect.

Ford is working on a fix and will notify owners by mail. Repairs will be provided free of charge at Ford and Lincoln dealerships.
