Toyota prepares its own Maverick rival

It was inevitable: Japanese automotive giant Toyota has taken note of the great success enjoyed by Ford with its compact pickup, the Maverick, and recently confirmed that it is preparing its own version of such a truck.

For now, the Ford Maverick, launched in 2022, continues to be a strong success with little real competition, apart from the Hyundai Santa Cruz. American magazine Motor Trend had already reported that Toyota would develop its own Maverick rival, but only recently did the publication from Toyota North America’s head of planning and strategy confirm that the project is officially underway. It is therefore no longer a matter of “if,” but “when.”

This new model, which would fall below the Tacoma in terms of specifications, is expected to be unveiled “soon,” alongside the electric Slate and Ram’s upcoming compact pickup.
