GM delays its fuel cell production

After being recently unveiled with much fanfare, General Motors’ project to produce hydrogen fuel cells in partnership with supplier Piston Automotive is now on hold.

The US$55 million project was to be housed in a 292 500-square-foot facility on the former Michigan State Fairgrounds site.

However, according to Detroit Business, GM executives have confirmed that the project is suspended rather than abandoned.

It should be noted that GM already produces hydrogen fuel cells in collaboration with Honda in Brownstown, Michigan, but the Fairgrounds project was to be managed by GM alone, without an alliance with another automaker.
