Ford’s European division has confirmed its intention to market two new electric vehicles in Europe. However, these new models, expected for 2028, will not be based on Volkswagen platforms as initially believed, but rather on Renault’s compact AmpR platform. This platform is already used by the new R5 (shown below), which is currently enjoying strong popularity in the European market.
It should be noted that Ford already produces two electric vehicles in Europe—the Explorer (European version) and the Capri—which, despite being built on Volkswagen’s MEB architecture, have not achieved the anticipated success. Ford believes that this future model will help fill the gap left by the discontinuation of the Fiesta. It is also worth noting that the growing presence of Chinese manufacturers is playing a significant role in shaping the European electric vehicle market.
