Trump confirms his tariffs on the automobile

U.S. President Donald Trump did not wait until April 2 to announce the imposition of 25% tariffs on vehicles not built in the United States. He made the statement on March 26, taking many analysts by surprise, as they believed he would reverse his decision following numerous analyses and complaints from stakeholders in the industry.

Although some details remain to be clarified, this measure means that several cars and trucks assembled in Canada and Mexico will be subject to these tariffs. However, it still remains to be determined how the tariffs will apply in light of the existing agreements between Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

Thousands of jobs are thus at stake.
