Ford Battery Plant Soon to Begin Operations

Despite the many reports announcing the closure of electric vehicle battery production plants, the American giant Ford — which itself withdrew its participation in the battery plant project in Bécancour, Quebec — continued the construction of its BlueOval Battery Park Michigan facility, despite the controversy.

Indeed, Ford had obtained a license from a Chinese company to produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, but without using materials sourced from China.

However, several local residents opposed the construction of this plant located in an agricultural area. Despite these objections, they were unsuccessful in shutting down the project.

Construction is now nearly complete and, later this summer, the $3 billion US complex is expected to begin operations to produce these batteries, which are expected to be used notably in a future Ford mid-size electric pickup truck.
