The return of the Cobra

Among the most legendary cars in the world, the AC Cobra roadster holds one of the most enviable positions. Although fewer than 1000 units were produced in the 1960s, the number of small companies specializing in reproducing this Anglo-American sports car continues to grow. This iconic model was created by the legendary Carroll Shelby, who used a British AC chassis and fitted it with a Ford V8 engine.

Although Ford has reused the Cobra name for various models, the true Cobra never returned to the market… until recently. Indeed, a renewed version of the AC Cobra will be produced by AC Cars, via T-Engineering in Sweden, still in the form of a two-seat roadster. Its engine will remain a Ford V8, this time a 5.0-liter producing 454 horsepower. Power will be sent to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual or a ten-speed automatic transmission.

Weighing approximately 2500 pounds, this new Cobra will be able to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in under four seconds, much like the original 427 Cobras. A supercharged S version will develop 663 horsepower and 575 li-ft of torque. The new Cobra will soon be unveiled at the ModaMiami show, with an estimated price of $245 000 USD.
