Lexus, Toyota's luxury division, has just unveiled the new generation of its ES sedan, the eighth in the nameplate's history. The lineup includes two electric models, the 350e and 500e, as well as a hybrid version powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder gasoline engine. The electric versions are already available, while the hybrid model is expected to arrive shortly.
Although this luxury car lineup still rides on a platform shared with the Toyota Camry, Lexus says it has made enough changes to set it further apart from the Camry than in the past.
The ES 350e is a front-wheel-drive sedan powered by a single 221-horsepower electric motor. The ES 500e, meanwhile, adds a second motor at the rear for a combined output of 338 horsepower.
The major highlight is the DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system, which can shift power between the front and rear wheels depending on available traction.
