Toyota approves expansion of its Texas plant

Japanese automotive giant Toyota Motor Corp. has decided to expand its pickup truck plant in San Antonio, Texas. To do so, the company will invest US$3.6 million to double the facility's size.
The goal of the project is to bring all Mexican production of the midsize Tacoma pickup back to the United States.
Toyota will add approximately 2.5 million square feet to the existing plant, which already occupies 2.2 million square feet.
This new section of the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas plant will have the capacity to produce 150,000 vehicles per year. The existing portion of the facility produced 197,506 full-size Tundra pickups and Sequoia SUVs last year.
In terms of staffing, approximately 2,000 new jobs will be created. The plant currently employs about 3,700 people.
