As if the industry didn’t already have enough challenges, a new dispute is emerging between Dutch manufacturer Nexperia, based in Nijmegen, Netherlands, and its facilities in China. The Chinese government has decided to impose trade restrictions on the export of chips tested and packaged in China to destinations around the world. This move follows the Dutch government’s decision to regain control of the company.
These restrictions are expected to hit Japanese automakers particularly hard, making them the main victims of this new trade tension. Several Japanese suppliers have already voiced concerns about potential semiconductor shortages stemming from the difficulties faced by Dutch manufacturer Nexperia.
