Despite the challenges posed by the trade tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, German giant Volkswagen continues to develop its North American lineup of electric Scout trucks. In fact, its Scout Traveler SUV and Terra pickup were displayed at the recent Los Angeles Auto Show.

Recent updates indicate that Scout prototypes are currently undergoing winter testing in Sweden, while preproduction units are expected to begin rolling out of the automaker’s new South Carolina plant as early as 2026. Regular production is targeted for late 2027. The VW Scout models are expected to be fully electric, including versions with extended-range electric powertrains.
