GM halts production in Mexico

gm-halts-production-in-mexico

According to a Reuters report, major American automaker General Motors has temporarily paused production of its popular Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups at its Silao plant in Mexico. This halt began in the first two weeks of July and is expected to continue during the first two weeks of August, according to the latest available information.

Typically, such plants may close temporarily to adjust during model changes. However, in this instance, GM’s pickups are among its best-selling vehicles, which could negatively impact its sales, despite GM’s plans to introduce updated versions of these trucks in the coming years. Of course, repercussions from tariffs previously imposed by the Trump administration could also be a factor behind this halt.
