Toyota to enter a hydrogen car in rally competition

Japanese automaker Toyota is known for favouring hydrogen over electricity as a future propulsion technology. That’s why they have decided to enter a Yaris in the upcoming international rally in Finland. This Yaris will be powered by a hydrogen engine — although Toyota has not abandoned fuel cell technology.

This will not be the company’s first experience with hydrogen in motorsport. Since 2021, hydrogen-powered Corollas have competed in various races, primarily on road circuits in Japan. Toyota also unveiled a hydrogen hypercar prototype at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Yaris Rally2 H2 Concept is not expected to compete in the full Finland rally but will instead run only in the first and tenth stages.
