There’s fierce competition among automakers to determine which brand is the fastest on Germany’s legendary Nürburgring racetrack.

Recently, this rivalry intensified between American manufacturers Ford and Chevrolet. Not long ago, Chevrolet brought its Corvette C8 models to the track to claim the fastest lap time for an American production car. For this challenge, GM chose the Corvette C8 Z06, which completed the 20.830-kilometre (12.943-mile) Nordschleife circuit in 7 minutes and 11.826 seconds. The ZR1 version recorded a lap of 6 minutes and 50.763 seconds, while the even more powerful ZR1X set a new record with a lap time of 6 minutes and 49.775 seconds. Chevrolet thus surpassed Ford’s previous record, held by the Mustang GTD with a time of 6 minutes and 52.072 seconds. Nevertheless, despite congratulations from Ford engineers, we should expect a response from them in the coming months!
