It's now official: major Chinese automaker BYD has announced its arrival in Canada.
BYD Co., of China, is expected to establish about 20 points of sale across the country in the near future, as the government considers Chinese automotive industry investment a way to help reduce its dependence on the United States.
It should be noted that the same government has now agreed to allow 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles per year to be sold in Canada, thereby removing part of the very high tariffs previously imposed on those vehicles.
BYD, which already operated a bus assembly plant in Ontario in 2019, also says it is considering building an automotive plant in the country. There has even been talk of acquiring another existing global automaker.
