Ecopro suspends construction of its Bécancour plant

EcoPro BM, a South Korean company that produces battery components, announced the suspension of the construction on its US$1.2 billion plant in Bécancour, Quebec, in June (without specifying an exact date). EcoPro BM cited U.S. government tariffs and declining consumer interest in electric vehicles.
However, the company specified that the suspension is temporary, stating: “Under the current circumstances, it would be premature to predict how long this pause will last.” It should be noted that this is not the first time the construction of the plant has been delayed : it was already postponed twice last year when EcoPro BM’s main partner, Ford Motor Company, withdrew from the project.
