Honda and Sony Abandon Afeela

The latest casualty of the slowdown in enthusiasm for electric vehicles — particularly in North America — appears to be the Sony Honda Mobility project, which has just announced the abandonment of the Afeela brand.

The lineup was to be based on the 0 Series prototypes, with vehicles planned for production in the United States. The name of the first sedan, the Afeela 1, had already been revealed, with a market launch expected as early as 2026. It was to be assembled at Honda’s Liberty plant in Ohio, while additional Afeela models were also in development.

However, according to the specialized publication Automotive News, Honda dealers are reportedly welcoming the decision, with many believing that the joint venture with Sony would have resulted in very high costs.

It should also be noted that Honda has recently canceled three electric vehicle projects over the past month.
