VICTO’S DOUBLE PRIDE (PART 2) : OUR COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADERS ON TOP OF THE WORLD
By Raynald Bouchard
The link between professional soccer and cheerleading is well established, except for the weight of these athletes, who rarely exceed 100 pounds of muscle.
Victoriaville-born Mély-Ann Roux is a member of the Québec competitive cheerleading team, who recently won the 2023 World Championship title. These cheerleaders are also true athletes, capable of performing movement sequences worthy of Cirque du Soleil. In Mély-Ann’s case, this has been achieved over a decade of training at the rate of three times a week, commuting from Victoriaville to Québec City. It’s not unlike the involvement of Québec parents with their offspring in the men’s and women’s minor field hockey circuits. We must salute the efforts, dedication and resilience of this young girl, who is destined to go higher and further. The pride that reflects on the people of Victoriaville and, by extension, all of Québec.
