ULTIMATE CONTACT WINTER EVENT FROM CONTINENTAL AND CANADIAN TIRE
By Piero Facchin
On a cold, sunny February day, Continental invited members of the press and media to their annual Ultimate Contact winter event, during which the German company unveiled a new winter tire. The new tire, developed in partnership with Canadian Tire, will be on sale towards the end of summer 2024 and will be called, you guessed it, UltimateContact Winter.
Testing took place at the ICAR complex in Mirabel, where four separate courses had been prepared to put these new tires to the test against tires from other manufacturers.
At each testing station, we were assisted by a number of experienced instructors who provided us with technical information, as well as instructions on how to drive the vehicles properly, to ensure that we got a good comparative idea.
Featuring the PolarPlus Technology, the UltimateContact Winter has directional tread and advanced sipe technology, ensuring optimum grip on ice and snow. In addition, this tire has been designed for electric vehicles, offering low rolling resistance and noise reduction.
Continental, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, uses vegetable oil to improve the elasticity of the rubber, which enhances grip in all conditions, snow-covered or not.
The UltimateContact Winter will be sold in all Canadian Tire stores as a replacement for the Continental Winter Contact SI Plus. According to Continental representatives, the price tag should be very competitive.
