TOWARDS OVER-THE-AIR UPDATING OF YOUR VEHICLE
By Marc Bardiaux
More and more automakers are now offering the option of upgrading the computer systems of your customers’ vehicles, without them having to come to you.
This is known as Over-the-Air (OTA) updating, and it enables the optimization of the various software systems responsible for a vehicle’s smooth operation, provided they are designed for this purpose. This operation is carried out remotely via a cellular or Wi-Fi network. The aim is to quickly correct or improve vehicle safety and performance issues, ensuring that it remains at the top of its game at all times.
This concept is of great benefit to drivers and workshops alike, since it limits visits to the dealership, on the one hand, and the use of service bays on the other. However, new challenges will arise, requiring robust protection against malicious intervention, as with any device connected to the Internet.
Even so, this is a real revolution, with far more advantages than disadvantages.
