TANYA SCHEIDL, MANAGER, BODY SHOP SECTOR FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION OF CANADA
(Article published in L’Automobile magazine, June 2023)
Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to Canada’s growth and development. Making a difference is one of my priorities in my work. So when a position at AIA Canada for the I-CAR Canadian program opened up in 2016, I didn’t hesitate. Having been raised in a family of car enthusiasts, I seemed destined for this new career. From coordinator to team leader in the body shop department, I quickly climbed the ladder to eventually land a management position.
Two years after starting with the I-CAR Canadian team, I had my first car accident. This experience introduced me to the collision repair process, but more importantly, to the importance of my job. Since then, I’ve been working to ensure that the automotive repair sector benefits from up to date, high-level training to make workplaces safer.
My aim is to simplify the training and qualification process so that more shops invest in their employees’ professional development. After all, acquiring knowledge should be fun and easy!
Every day, body shop specialists have the power to save lives through the repairs they carry out. Our duty is to ensure that the industry meets standards of excellence, and that workers in this sector have the skills they need to make Canadians feel safe about the work they do on their vehicles.
