INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS TRIUMPH IN CONSUMER SATISFACTION
Consumer Reports’ survey, involving feedback from 10,973 members on 11,670 auto repairs, demonstrates a clear preference for independent workshops over dealerships and chains for out-of-pocket vehicle repairs. Independent shops received top satisfaction scores for their comprehensive service, affordability, and negotiation willingness on prices—traits not commonly found in dealership services. These shops stood out for trustworthiness, knowledgeable mechanics, and a good reputation, factors crucial when unexpected repairs arise.
The survey underscored the importance of establishing a consistent maintenance relationship with a trusted shop to monitor and address potential car issues proactively. With nearly all dealerships rated lowest for price and independent workshops lauded for their approach to service and pricing, consumers show a strong inclination towards independent repair facilities for their automotive needs, particularly as their vehicles age.
