HONDA ANNOUNCES PRODUCTION OF MORE CIVICS IN ONTARIO
By Anne Bourgoin
Honda Canada COO Dave Jamieson told Automotive News Canada that the company wants to focus on efficiency at the Ontario plant and within the supply chain. He noted that, although the Civic has lost its title of best-selling car in Canada after 24 years, demand remains strong (particularly in Québec). He added that it was the Civic’s reduced production that led to a drop in sales in 2022, allowing the Toyota Corolla to take the lead. The fact that the Civic is no longer the inexpensive vehicle it once was certainly has impacted sales too. The price of the compact sedan has risen from $20,170 in 2020 to $28,743 for 2024. Of course, it’s not the only model to have seen its acquisition cost rise—it’s the case for many vehicles in the industry, and interest rates have played their part in this.
Mr. Jamieson also explained that the company had no intention of bringing back an entry-level version, as it simply couldn’t afford to do so.
