GM OPENS UP TO HYDROGEN
By Éric Descarries
At a time when the industry seems to be moving away from diesel fuels, American giant General Motors sees an opportunity to experiment with hydrogen. To this end, the major automaker has agreed to collaborate on a five-year federally funded project to apply fuel cell technology to utility vehicles.
GM will use a Chevrolet Silverado 5,500 equipped with its Hydrotec system for demonstration purposes. This mid-sized truck will have a combined capacity of 19,500 pounds and a range of some 480 kilometres. It will also be capable of 300 kilowatts of power for outdoor tooling.
