CALIBRATION OF ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS (ADAS): A MUST AFTER REPAIRS
(Article published in L’AUTOMOBILE Collision magazine, February 2024)

Amir Farrokh’s professional background makes him a true expert in automotive repair. Co-owner of a centre specialized in the calibration of ADAS, he explains the importance of this process for bodywork specialists.
Mr. Farrokh’s experience as a bodywork technician and trainer is a valuable asset for his company, which opened in 2023. It now has two partners and one technician. “We operate two branches: the Centre de Calibration des Laurentides and the Centre de Calibration de la Capitale,” he points out.
Essential for Bodywork Repair
ADAS are designed to facilitate the driver’s tasks and prevent accidents. Calibration is used to ensure that the various systems function correctly, and to detect any anomalies in the driver assistance modules.
Amir Farrokh’s calibration centres specialize in damaged vehicles. He explains that “when a vehicle is involved in an accident, different modules can be affected.” The various calibrations in the bodywork include adjustments to the cameras linked to 360-degree peripheral vision, the radar for blind spots, the radar connected to the cruise control, the ultrasonic sensors that detect obstacles, and the windshield camera handling adaptive headlights and lane keeping. “When the vehicle is repaired,” stresses Farrokh, “we have to carry out an analysis of the electronic data with a complete scan of all the control modules, then calibrate those that have been deregulated by the collision or repair operations.” Before handing over the vehicle to the customer, the calibration centre always carries out a test drive.
Benefits for Bodywork Specialists and Their Customers
When customers entrust the calibration of their vehicle to a specialized centre, they can rest assured that all their car’s modules will be functional and that they will be able to drive in complete safety. “Our customers appreciate our mobile calibration service with our units on the road. They enable the bodywork repairer to avoid having to move the vehicle, as well as meeting vehicle delivery deadlines. Not all collision centres have the specialized staff, workspace and tools to carry out calibration or diagnostics. Our two centres can do it all for them,” says Farrokh.
The automotive sector is constantly evolving, with systems becoming more sophisticated and complex, which is why it’s so important to contact a centre specializing in calibration after a repair.
